Penela Castle - Portugal

A lovely Penela card sent by Zé Pombal.

"The Penela Castle was built in 1097, and suffered several modifications throughout centuries (including works at the times of the first kings of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, D. Sancho I e D. Dinis). The outside walls were built in the XIVth century, while two of his doors (Castelejo and Porta da Vila) date from the XVth century. The Porta da Traição has a double opening and a Moorish style. The Torre do Relógio (Watch Tower) was destroyed in 1755 earthquake, but it was rebuilt in 1760." - in:
