I said on the last pictures vs postcard post, that the next one would be about Porto too, so here it is.
Another card published by the portuguese postal service, this one with the D. Luís I Bridge.
"The D. Luís I Bridge is an arch bridge that spans the Douro River between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. At the time of construction its span of 172 m was the longest of its type in the world. The Government held a competition for the construction of a metallic bridge on the Douro River on a site that was adjacent to an existing bridge and would replace it. Teófilo Seyrig had already engineered the D. Maria Pia Bridge project, whilst working as a partner of Eiffel. He now took sole responsibility for the new, major Luis 1st Bridge. The construction was begun in 1881 and the bridge opened on 1886-10-31." - in: wikipedia
This picture would be so much better if the sky wasn't burnt, but i still like it because i really like this bridge.
"The Porto Cathedral, located in the historical centre of the city, is one of the city's oldest monuments and one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Portugal.
The current Cathedral of Porto underwent construction around 1110 under the patronage of Bishop Hugo and was completed in the 13th century." - in: wikipedia
I was a bit disappoited when i saw the cathedral because there were some construction iron structures above the main door and on the left side of the cathedral. I want to take more pictures but those iron stuctures were really unesthetic.
The girl on the picture is my friend Isa.
