I've already posted a few Luxembourg cards here but this is the 1st time I'm posting an official card from this country.

Notre-Dame Cathedral is the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Luxembourg City. It was originally a Jesuit church, and its cornerstone was laid in 1613. It is the only cathedral in Luxembourg.

The church is a noteworthy example of late gothic architecture; however, it also has many Renaissance elements and adornments. At the end of the 18th century, the church received the miraculous image of the Maria Consolatrix Afflictorum, the patron saint of both the city and the nation.

Around 50 years later, the church was consecrated as the Church of Our Lady and in 1870, it was elevated by Pope Pius IX to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. - in: wikipedia

Bock Casemates - Luxembourg

I've been to Luxembourg city a few years ago. It was a day trip from Bruxelles but it was enough to visit the city and explore the Bock casemates, one of the coolest places to visit there. 

Luís was there a few weeks ago. He sent me the 1st of these cards and the other was bought by me.

In 963, Count Siegfried built a fortified castle on the Bock promontory, which was soon to become the cradle of the city. In the course of the centuries, on the western side, mighty ring walls were added, which, however, did not foil the Burgundians in their attempt to conquer the city in 1443. The best builder-engineers of the new masters (the Burgundians, the Spaniards, the French, the Austrians and the German Confederation) eventually turned the city into one of the most powerful emplacements in the world, the "Gibraltar of the North". 

Its defences were bolstered by three fortified rings with 24 forts, 16 other strong defensive works and a unique 23 km long network of casemates: these could not only shelter thousands of soldiers and their horses, but also housed workshops, kitchens, bakeries, slaughter-houses etc. In 1867, after the declaration of neutrality,the military withdrew from the fortress and during the following 16 years 90% of the defences were demolished. In 1875, the superstructure of the Bock, a tremendous construction, was razed. However, it proved to be impossible to blow up the casemates, without also demolishing part of the city, so the entrances and the key connecting galleries were sealed. This card brings me very good memories of my trip to Belgium and Luxembourg two years ago.

Luxembourg City

While i was in Belgium i went to Luxembourg on a day trip. It was a 3 or 4 hours train trip and it was really worth it. The city is really beautiful, especially the downtown and the casamates are great.

I was there 1 week ago and a few days before Heidi "dollart" was there too. When i got home i had her and my card waiting for me.

My card shows the Stierchen Bridge crossing the Alzette river. This is a medieval bridge built in the 14th century.

Heidi sent me this card of the Grand Ducal Palace with a picture of the Royal Family.
It is the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, and where he performs most of his duties as head of state of the Grand Duchy. As the official residence of the Grand Duke, the palace is used by him in the exercise of his official functions. He and the Grand Duchess, together with their staff, have their offices at the palace, and the state rooms on the first floor are used for a variety of meetings and audiences. in: wikipedia
The members of the Royal Family are the Grand Duke Henri married to Maria Teresa Mestre. Their children are: Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Prince Félix, Prince Louis, Prince Sébastien and the Princess Alexandra.

Lots of cards today

Today was a good day. 14 cards, 10 from Brazil (yes, again), 2 from Luxembourg, 1 from Belgium and 1 from Texas, USA.

These are the cards from Brazil, mainly from São Paulo area but 1 of them is from Brasília, the capital city. All these cards were sent by Déa.

Luxembourg castles.

This one is from Bastogne. Here it took place the Ardennes Battle during the 2nd World War. This card and the Luxembourg cards were sent by Alice, a portuguese woman living in Luxembourg.

Finally, a card from Texas with its endless shoreline and beautiful plant life, it is no wonder why the Gulf Coast attracts tourists from all over the USA. card sent by "pawtrekker".
